What is Dao?
This question has been explored in Dao De Jing 道德经，a book written around 500 BC by Laozi, 老子。Legend has it that he lived for 500 years and achieve immortality. He is commonly featured in Taoist temple and Chinese painting. He has a high forehead, big ears and long beard. His title in the temple is read as The Greatest Heavenly Lord，太上老君。 Do not be bothered too much by the title that were given by the temple to honour his contribution. It is a way of the Chinese to eulogized the greatness of the individual that contributed greatly to humanity and held as a model for all to learn from him. Chinese is a group of people that has harmonised together, through China's long history of five thousand years, with a practical share culture and conduct.
